    Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

I hope that this letter finds you embracing the coming thaw of spring.  Winter has been long and arduous, the upcoming break will be a great time to recharge our batteries and get ready for that push to the end of the year.  When we return from break, students in grades six through nine will be taking the Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium (SBAC) assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics.  Students in grades eight and eleven will be taking the Next Generation Science Standards assessments as well.  We will be spreading the testing out over three weeks, one week for each content area, and two-four days per content area.  We extract a great deal of information from these tests; they let us know the strengths and weaknesses of individual students and our school as a whole.  This information is used to individualize student-learning experiences and to make curricular changes.

Each year we encourage students to do their best and provide an incentive for the grade level(s) that can better state averages in both Math, ELA, and Science.  The incentive is in the form of a team-bonding activity, usually at an offsite location where that grade level can be the primary focus.  This team-bonding activity is just one way that we strive to connect academic performance to positive peer social interactions.

The daily schedule will be modified slightly in that the order of the periods will be changed so that the same class is not effected each day.  Please reference the schedule on the back of this letter to ensure that your students are well rested and prepared to take these SBAC and NGSS tests.

Thank you so much for your support and understanding,

    Ryan Parkman
