Dear Parents,

We have had a few cases of head lice at the elementary school.  We ask that parents take the time to remind their children to follow some simple steps to help prevent lice.

-Avoid sharing hats scarves, hair ties, combs and brushes

-Put hats in the sleeve of their coats prior to hanging up

-Hang coats on separate hooks/hangers away from others. Do not throw in a pile

-Keep longer hair up or tied back

            -Avoid playing dress up games

Parents can also help fight the spread of lice by checking their children’s hair at least once a week for lice and when excessive itching is noticed. When lice are found, notify your school nurse, daycare provider and parents of friends who your child has had recent contact with.  When a case of lice is found or reported to the school nurse steps are taken here at school to prevent further cases.

Working together will help minimize the cases of lice in our community.

Sincerely,

Risa M. Mancillas, Principal
