The Northfield Strings Program is in full swing
for the 2008 – 2009 school year. There are about fifty 1st - 12th grade
students participating. Strings students meet weekly during a scheduled
group class on Thursdays and Fridays during the school day.
Additionally, students in the third grade and up who are in their second year
or more of playing, and who have demonstrated readiness, have a second class
that is a full orchestra rehearsal on Thursdays at 2:00 in the Music Room. Students are encouraged
to participate in events in the Central Vermont community, including private
lessons. Many students borrow school instruments or rent from area violin
shops. Students are expected to play at home a minimum of three times per
week. Five times per week, or more, is recommended. The early
beginner will play for 10 - 15 minutes while those in their second year or more
will play for a minimum of 30 minutes. Students must bring their
instruments to school on the days of their scheduled lessons in order to be
successful in the program. Students may begin at any time but starting in
the fall with the others is best. Summer lessons are available upon
request and are highly recommended. For more information, please contact

IMPORTANT FORMS AND NOTICES
REGISTRATION: Returning string players should get their
registration form in by September 5.
They will be handed out on the first day of school for NES and NMHS.
New strings participants should get a
note or initial sign up sheet in to me by September 5,
and then fill out the registration
form that I will give them by September 12.
After this, any new string players
who would like to participate should request a form from Ms. Hotchkiss or their
classroom teacher.

Northfield Strings are
invited to perform with the Vermont Fiddle Orchestra
on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 7:00 pm at City Hall in Montpelier (arrive at 5:30 pm for a pre-concert rehearsal. Dress comfortably).
