

Healthy for a Lifetime…Everyone’s a WINNER in Physical Education!
Welcome to the Physical Education Program at NES. Students in grades K-5 will have PE two times a week. Classes will be 40 minutes in length for kindergarten and 50 minutes for grades 1-5. Please have your child prepared for safe activity by having them wear comfortable easy-to-move-in clothing and sneakers with socks on their scheduled PE days.
· While we do learn and practice skills and activities during physical education class which can help your child reach his/her goals, your child needs YOUR SUPPORT outside of school if they are to achieve their goals.
· Set a good example by practicing healthy habits yourself.
· Limit sedentary activities such as TV, movies video and computer games.
· Plan active family outings and vacations.
· Assign household chores ( mowing lawns, working in the garden, stacking wood, shoveling snow, etc.) that require physical exertion.
· Observe what sports and activities appeal to your children, then encourage their development with lessons or by joining teams.
· When your children are bored, suggest something that gets them moving and don’t hesitate to do it with them!
Your encouragement, support and time commitment to your child in this area is the single most influential factor in helping our children to be healthy for a lifetime!
