How to Say "No, thanks!"

1. Say what the problem is (such as, "No, it's not good for my body. Thanks, anyway!" or "No thanks, it's illegal.")

2. Say what the consequences are. (such as, "No, I don't want my parents to be disappointed in me" or "You know my coach would kill me if I couldn't play as well.")

3. Suggest something to do instead. (such as "I'm not really into that. Why don't you come over and play some video games instead?")

4. If your friends insist on doing it anyway, leave. But leave the door open for them to change their minds and join you. (such as "Well, if that's what you're into, then I'm going to head out. If you want to come to my place instead of drinking here, then that'd be cool. Otherwise, I'll see you tomorrow at school.")

Sometimes you can make it easier on yourself by preparing in advance for a
possible pressure situation. Here are some things you can do ahead of time.
• Think ahead and try to anticipate possible problems.
• Decide in advance what you intend to do.
• Think of some good ways to handle the situation if it arises,
or some good ways to avoid the situation altogether.

Remember: You have the right to make healthy choices for your own life!
